Traveling to Princeton

By Air: Although Princeton is about equal distance between Newark Liberty International (NJ) Airport and Philadelphia International (PA) Airport, we recommend you use Newark, as there are more convenient ground transportation options from Newark to Princeton.

The most convenient method to get from Newark Liberty International Airport to Princeton is via a NJ Transit train.

You can take the airport Air Train monorail to the airport’s train station stop and inquire there about the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor service to Princeton Junction.  Remember to obtain a receipt for the train and the shuttle also. Receipts are available from the NJ Transit vending machines as well as from the cashier from whom you purchase your train ticket(s).

When you arrive at Princeton Junction, you can take the “Dinky” which will bring you to Princeton campus. The “Dinky” leaves every 5 minutes from Princeton Junction to Princeton. (for the exact schedule see the NJ Transit Train link below) You can then walk to the Erdman Center. Taxis will also be waiting at the Princeton Junction train station; they charge between $16 to $20.

By Train: Check the NJ Transit train schedule to Princeton Junction, NJ if you are interested in coming to Princeton via train.   To get from Princeton Juntion to Princeton, please see the paragraph above regarding the Dinky.

Driving:  Please check here for driving directions.

The department will help defray the costs of travel to Princeton by reimbursing prospective PhD students for a portion of airfare, train fare or automobile mileage to travel here. Please save your boarding passes, and original air, train or ground transportation receipts.  To be reimbursed for your allowable expenses, you will need to complete an expense report form which will be provided in your welcome packet at Visit Day along with further instructions on completing the form and submitting expenses.   As a reminder, the department will host your lodging for two nights.  The bill will be paid directly.  However, any incidental charges incurred for telephone, internet, or food are payable by you upon checkout.
