Energy storage is required to create “untethered" small scale applications, but as applications become larger the need for storage changes, as the storage becomes part of a fundamentally connected grid. In this lecture we will discuss an overview of where storage fits in the grid, how the needs for storage can be defined, and what technologies exist and are in development to meet these needs.
